Needlecraft Group Report for October/November 2009 (by Dru Nicholas)
October was a great month which included a demonstration of a Yo-yo square with Jeanette Martin, the end result was a few members making yo-yo bags.
The bus trip was also a great success. 22 members attended the Mittagong trip. The weather was great.
The first stop was Bowral where we visited a patchwork shop and then had a leisurely stroll down the main street. Then it was on to the Japanese Shop in Mittagong, which has a range of Japanese fabric along with other items from Japan.
Whilst in Mittagong we also visited two other patchwork shops, followed by lunch in the park. And then, as always, the last stop was Victoria House. Next time we’ll have to take a trailer to fit in all the shopping! Karen Dagg’s displayed her unique buttons and fabrics on the 27th October.
The buttons are ceramic and she will make up to your own design or you can buy from the range she already has. She had a great selection of fat quarters which were $3 each as well as packets of one metre of fabric for $5.
We will invite Karen back again every three months as her prices were very reasonable and the quality great.

The Pam Green Exhibition was held on a day when the weather forecast was for strong winds and people we encouraged to stay indoors. The BACG members either did not hear  the warnings or just did not care because they all came out in droves and had a wonderful day.
Attendance was down due to the weather and the Gymkhana had lower numbers as horses do not generally like strong winds any more and we do. In spite of the weather, there was a steady flow of people of all ages and the day was generally successful. The exhibits in the Needlecraft display room were beautifully laid out, the stalls in the Dining Room made good sales and the BACG members in the craft, art and pottery rooms worked hard, showing visitors what we do as a part of this fantastic group.
The Needlecraft display room housed a diverse range of art and crafts including tatting, crochet, knitting, quilts (finished and in progress), tapestry, children’s art and painting in many different media. Well done and thank you to everyone who displayed their work.
The Pottery room had many beautiful ceramic pieces on display and demonstrations were given by Ilona, Mike and Jeff. These proved very popular with the visitors.
In the Craft room, many members were working on their latest projects including quilts, cross-stitch, knitting and embroidery, showing visitors the skills that many have learned or developed by attending the BACG.
Dawn showed how she created her silk paintings and Elaine worked on her latest pastel painting of a greyhound in the Art room. The live demonstrations gave visitors an insight into what is available at “The Huts” and they enjoyed the change to join us for the day.
